Mafia

Mafia is the perfect destination for those who love diving and the island is home to Tanzania’s first National Marine Park. Many of the accommodation facilities (all small) have a diving centre. Although the beaches of Mafia are generally less spectacular than those of Zanzibar, Mafia has not seen the development which characterized Zanzibar in the last two decades, it is much less touristy, smaller and perfect for those seeking a holiday away from it all or dedicated to underwater activities. Relative limited accessibility (no direct flights from Arusha, only via Dar, air fares higher than to Zanzibar) and limited accommodation translate into lower numbers of tourists.
